I love to know what book you are referring to when you verify 1945 serial numbers! What can you tell me about this one 99C646553? What numbers did 1945 production start and end with?

Thanks 5 star
Looks like what I've been looking for but it's too blurry to read. I did a search on this site but I haven't been able to find a readable copy. Is this out of one of the Ford manuals?

Hey r3dstar, great to have you, I'm no expert but I have been working on my 46 for several years now. Don't hesitate to ask questions no matter how crazy it may sound. Believe me I have asked a few. I accumulated a lot of parts including my chassis from ebay. Just type in 1947 ford truck and you will see a lot of stuff come up. 1942-1947 1/2 tons are all the same except for some minor things and some things on larger trucks. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here as some have already responded.

Try down loading the pic onto your computer, and save it in you photo program, under a jpg file.
you can then go into and view it as actual view. Sorry but its the best I can do as far as the size goes, its the layout that makes it difficult.

5 Star,

I did try that today (I am always looking for info also and thought it would be a good read). I think the forum really reduces the size of the image when it is inserted. It is very blurry when copied to my computer and magnified. One way might be to post a better copy of it off site with a link to it? Not that I need it, but I love those things.

EddyL & Soule46

On the pic that I posted put your mouse on the pic and you will see 4 icons. The one with the envelope click on it and you can send yourself the pic to your email address.

Post on the reply if it worked for you. If not i will try and crop the article into 3 seperate sections and then repost it. you may even be able to get it from my gallery as it is in there. Again let me know, if you get it.

I tryed saving the file without success as well. I went to your gallery and that file has even less detail, it's actually a 4 kb thumbnail. If this software reduces the size you could post it on my site. http://storage.remotedata.com You have to create a free account and log in but theres a several places there you can upload the file.

1945 ford 1/2 ton pickup, 3 1/2 years into it, "INFO"

Hi r3dstar,
Click on my name and I have some pictures of my 59c 1945 ford 1/2 ton pickup.
Some features that I did was a 1979 Camaro front stub, 1980 Trans am rear axle with 11" disc brakes, 350 small block engine, 700R4 tranny, 1991 chevy full size van, steering column.
Keep in mind, when and if you replace the front stub, MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE, AND REMEASURE, BEFORE YOU WELD.
Also, keep in mind, if you have to buy some front fenders, the one ton wheel well openings are larger than the 1/2 ton fenders. The 1 ton wheel wells are appx 2" taller and 2 1/2" wider. I hope that is the right dimension, it could be the other way around. Just be aware!
Didn't mean to go over our Moderators, but wanted to point out these problems that I have had. I bought 2 sets of 1/2 ton front fenders on Ebay and they were 1 ton fenders. BEWARE ! I am not saying not to buy on ebay. I found plenty of good stuff there. But there is some that don't know what they are selling.
One good place to find parts is on the classifieds. That is where I finally found a complete set of sheetmetal that I needed to complete the parts that I needed.
Lee

I saw a couple of 42-47 1/2 tons at a show last fall where the owners had used an 83-89 Chrysler New Yorker/5th Avenue torsion bar suspension and rear end under their trucks. I used the same set up under my 48 which is nearly identical to the 42-47 frame. It's about the right width and it's not too difficult to accomplish. Both of them used the 318 Chrysler engines but I used a Chevy 350 in mine. There are some suspension pictures in my gallery.

5 star (or anyone else): How do you know that r3dstar's truck is a '45 based on the above serial number 656504, as both vanpeltsales.com and wnyrg.org cite the first serial number of 1946 production being 650280? It appears to me that r3dstar's truck would be a '46.

That is a neat article, 5 Star. I had been looking for the starting serial number for the 1945 production. Does your resource happen to also indicate the number of trucks produced in 1945 or 1944? I would be most interested in the 1.5 ton production numbers for those years. Thanks!

44 FarmTruck

Here is the only info I have and show no reference to the 1944. I believe those were for Armed Forces exclusive.

Historcial note the 1945 Ford Pickup Model 83 was the 31.000.000.000 Ford built.

Production numbers of Truck models

81-------Cab & Chassis--------564
83-------Pickup---------------19706
84-------Chassis & Cowl-------230
85-------Chassis & W/S--------59
86-------Stake----------------345

Hope this is of help to you.
