there are many more 6.0's out there with 0 problems than there are with problems. the early ones, yes, had issues, but I don't think as many problems have been had by people with 05 and 06 MY 6.0's.

I'm going to order an 07 just to get the last of the 6.0's before they switch over to the much more pricey diesel option on the 08 MY

My dad has a 03 6.0 and the only problem he has had way the heads went out at 98.000. Other than that he hasn't had any problems and its a kick'in truck.

I have a 2004 Crew, Dually, 4X4, 6.0 PSD (4-28-06 engine build date) with ZERO problems. Only a couple recalls for small issues, in which I received excellent service. As an earler poster said: "there are many more 6.0's out there with 0 problems than there are with problems. the early ones, yes, had issues, but I don't think as many problems have been had by people with 05 and 06 MY 6.0's". Is an accurate statement. I just added the new Superchips Flashpaq 1805 and the truck runs awsome! I plan on keeping my truck for a while, plus it's paid for. If the new 6.4 PSD is a great engine and minimal issues, I may trade up. Staying on the original question: If I was going to buy a first truck, I would wait till April/May of 07 and see how the new trucks are doing, if all is clear get one. If they have issues (or some of them like the 03 6.0 PSD) I would look for a killer deal on an 06 Super Duty that the dealer want to get rid of.

From what I understand, the new engine will have more sensors, smog devices and less tamper proof than our 6.0 PSD. Which the 6.0 has more sensors and smog cr%$@p than the 7.3. Also something to think about.......

ok, just to be up front, I went with the '07 order...

But what has me curious, is that several posters have said to wait and see if the 6.4 is a bust or not and if it is, go get the killer deal on a leftover 6.0. Yeah, right.... everyone will just stop buying diesels waiting for the 6.4 to get "right", rather than snapping up each and every last one of the 6.0s.

Sometimes the logic just escapes me... But then again, I made my bet...

The heads going out at 98,000 miles is some inconvenience and $100 deductible. The concern would be the same thing happening at 105,000. $$$$$

huh??
People didn't stop buying the 6.0's when there were problems with that.. people aren't going to stop buying 6.4's because they aren't going to know about the problems until they buy it, because most people don't do any research before they go and buy.

Well in my area, the 7.3s got snapped up when the 6.0s came out.... But then again, I think it was out of fear of the new and the 7.3 being a known, rather than folks reporting early problems on the 6.0s, and it being a reaction to that. Dealers still are giving a premium (around here) to 7.3s with under a 100K on the odo...

Love the avitar, btw, Captain...

Ah, I see. I'm sure you'll still be able to find a used 6.0 though if the 6.4 has problems, obviously the leftovers will sell out quick, only time will tell..

and thanks, lol

if i was in your seat i'd wait on the 6.4 PSD. The 6.0 is a good engine i think the 6.4 PSD will even be stronger. I think Ford learned the hard way when they released the 6.0 PSD too early before doing enough research. I bet Ford doing A TON of research on the 6.4 PSD to make sure a early 6.0 release doesn't happen again.
