3 speed overdrive in 66f100
#17
1949/64 Ford Passenger Cars used the Warner T-86 R9 O/D. I doubt this trans will bolt to a 240 I-6 bellhousing. 240/300 I-6's introduced in 1965.
Another problem is that thru 1955, FoMoCo vehicles are 6V positive ground, while 1956 and later are 12V negative ground.
So, none of the '52's 6V electrical parts will work on a 1956 or newer 12V system. The 12V parts are very hard to find, the O/D relay is almost non-existant, and...
Passenger Cars have a different length extension housing/output shaft than the trucks do.
Forget it, look for the correct T-85N and make sure you get the solenoid, governor, relay, kickdown switch and the wiring harness.

B it is...1961/71.
1961/71 T-85 models & case markings,
1961/64 223: AS2T-85G / case marked: 3TAK
1961/64 292: AS2T-85H / Case marked: 3TAM
1965/67 6 or V8: AS2T-85N / Case marked: 5W3C
1968/71 6 or V8: AS10T-85N / Case marked: 8W3AS
The T-85 was also used in Ford cars thru 1967 with 223/240/289/292/312/352 and 390 engines.
Looking for a T-85? Don't forget, you'll also need the transmission yoke, and correct length driveshaft for your application. And...the overdrive: relay, kickdown switch, control cable and wiring harness.
DHarris: These transmissions do not grow on trees, and are hard to find.
Parts are scarce unless one knows exactly where to look.
Besides Fords, the transmission was also used in Mercury's, Edsels, early Lincolns, Studebakers, Packards, Nashes and Hudsons. Everyone wants one, few find them.
