Nut, I think that it would work fantastic. It's essentially setting up a bypass filter for the trans. There's no way to hurt it by setting it up as a bypass, since it would in no way restrict flow to the trans. If I hadn't already sold mine, I would definately look into setting it up as a bypass.

Actually setting up a bypass fitler for the trans is pretty simple and the way I would recommend doing it. hardest part is you have to put a way to vent back to the pan, either drill the case and tap it with a fitting or put a fitting into the pan. the other thing you do is take one of the preasure test port plugs out, put in a fitting, then you plumb that to your filter and back to the pan. You do have to have a restriction in it to keep from venting all your preasure, but hte motorgaurd bypass filters already have that installed as I recall infact you have to remove it for engine oil filtering if I remember correctly.

well I prefer to run through the radiator first, then to the external cooler (I assume that is what your talking about) front line on tranny to radiator, rear line to the external cooler.

As I'm following this thread, I'm wondering what effect reduced flow (restriction) has on the tranny? I would think an extra filter mounted in-line is an incredible idea. My thoughts were also that the filter would be installed at the end of the line so to speak. I think the dieselsite product hooks to the return line from the cooler then puts the fluid back into the tranny where the OEM cooler line would have before the new install. The only place for the fluid to go is back to the pan where it waits to be picked up and forced through the trans again. All the parts that need fluid are getting it.
The only problem I could see is if the new "in-line" "external" filter were so restrictive that fluid never made it back to the pan. Obviously, that would be a problem of concern.
So again, is there restriction and does it affect the transmission?
What is the effect?

I too had the same information from Brian when he installed my Tranny. I also had the Banks Transcommand which was removed and the Permacool external filter and aux Cooler. Brian recommended removing all with the BTS Tranny. BTW All are for sale ! If you are interested give me a PM

Thanks
Tim

ext trans filter ???

Is it possible to have trans fluid pressure / flow lessened, 'turned down' a little, so as to be more compatible with an external filter kit ?

Maybe the shifts wouldn't be as 'snappy' but the life of the trans would be extended.

?????????????????????????

If you turn down the line pressure, it may do more than just soften the shifts and could actually shorten trans life. The clutch plates in the trans are held together by hydraulic pressure from the trans fluid. The more pressure (line pressure) you have, the stronger is holds those plates. So, if you lower line pressure, you would me much more likely to have slipping clutch plates in the trans, which will kill it pretty quickly.
