Did this mod last night, everything went great BUT. When checking for leaks and operation the heater core side of the valve seemed to get warm. Like the valve was not seating off. The valve is brand new from O'Reilly and appears to be fully stroking as it should be. Anyone else seen this? I haven't had a chance to put an IR Temp gun to it (wife hollerin about dinner or something) I'll put the gun to it tonight before I pull it and change it out.

Thanks

Once you start operating the valve while checking out the functionality, you probably let some hot coolant through the system and it doesn;t take but a minute or so to fill the core with hot coolant. I saw the same thing on mine this past weekend. The only way to check for sure is:

1. leave the setting in Max A/C when you shut down the truck
2. let it sit overnight so all heat is dissipated
3. start up the next morning LEAVING the setting on Max A/C, and THEN
4. check the core side temperatue.

If you get hot temps after the valve (several inches downstream) after following the above steps, the valve is NOT holding.

I remember a manual knob on the dash that opened/closed the hot water line to the heater core but can't remember which car this was on. It allowed you to regulate the amount of hot water so as to control the temps in the cabin.

It seems like there ought to be a cable operated on/off water valve out there that can be tied into the hot supply line to our heater cores. (Like a choke cable/knob)

I don't know how to research it to find what I remember but I gotta believe its out there someplace.

Would beat having to lift the hood to turn the valve on/off all the time.
My 1967 F250 had a cable operated one st control the heat.
