Budman1962 is starting off with a positive reputation.
If I just put in a ball valve which line should it go in?
Thanks

Budman

It shouldn't make any difference.

If hot coolant can't get IN to the core, it stays cool.

If coolant can't get OUT, nothing can get IN either, and the core stays cool.

In or out, blocked flow is blocked flow.

best bet is to spend the $12 and get that ranger cutoff valve. It is vacuum controlled and cuts off both lines!

We don't have an autozone around here. Any idea if I can get the ranger valve from napa or oreilly's . What year did they come on the ranger?
Thanks,
Budman

I put mine in the hose that has the wire loom stuff on it. When I cut it,there wasn't any leaks. Benn that way since last summer with no issues at all.

How hard is it to add a vacuum switch that can be operated manually that is separate from the air/heat switch?

This is the valve I got from the dealership, yes the dealership.
It was 25 dollars and cheaper then Autozone or Checkers/O'rielly's.
List price was 27 dollars but the parts guy took a couple bucks off.

Here is a Photobucket LINK to my install.

I teed into the red line and the valve closes in Max AC, AC, Dash outlets and Dash and Foot well outlets position. Works normally when in the Foot well only, Foot well and Defrost, or Defrost only posotion. You can tee into the white vac line to have the valve close in only the Max AC position. Once it starts getting cool I can remove yellow vac line and cap the tee and the HVAC system will work as stock.

I just completed this little mod and it works great. Its blowing ice cubes now.
Got the valve at Auto Zone for $17.99, 5 ft of 5/32 vacuum line and 4 1-1/16 clamps I had the T. Total cost $25.48. I used Joe's fishing line and sinker trick to pull the vacuum line up the back side by the fender then slide the red wire loom on. I also remove a shim from the clutch. So it should all be in good shape for a while.

So without going back and reading, I think I have a cutoff already on the top hose going into the firewall, its teed into the hose and the gizmo looks like it vacum operated, i,m wondering if this is what everbody is talking about that the 03's already have a cutoff???I don't have a pic but it looks like a canaster with a small frisby type thing on top then a vacum port for the hose, is this my cut off to the heater core from the factory?? My air blows artic when rolling, wouldn't want to make any changes if I didn't have't to, what yaa think..???
