Buy the valve from Napa for a Ford Ranger and get the dieselsite cold rush. Thats the best setup. Not the cheapest, but you have complete control.
I have the valve already, my AZ did not have the tubing though. I plan on picking the tubing up next time I go into town.
I can't justify dropping another $100 right now on the Cold Rush add-on. This is why I figured I would just put tees into the white and red line and move it from oen ot the other depending. In all reality though, for now anyway, I will probably just go with the white line. I will throw a tee in the red line if I feel I need it in a couple of months.
Good thread. Probably gets read this time of year by new users (like me) every year.
Had a suburban (remember when GMC didn't stand for Goverment Motors of China) with the plastic shut off/bypass valve and it would snap at the 90 degree bend (twice in 5 years). Dieselsite has the metal straight through valve that looks like a fix it and forget it item. White or red vacuum tap seems more like a geographic choice ( yuma vs denver) to me. Here in WA where we use AC about 30 days a year, so I'll be using the red vacuum line.
Just finished this mod. The only trouble I've had is the vacuum T. I couldn't find a 1/16th to 1/8th T so I had to used 1/8th with 5/32 line. That size went over the vacuum line so I also used a thin film of RTV on the vacuum line to make sure it sealed.

Though I don't know "for certain", I'd bet that yours is just like all of the others, without any kind of factory valve, and there's hot coolant flowing through your system even when in MAX A/C mode.
On this chassis, however, the Excursions were an exception. They did have the valves.

My '02 didn't have a valve from the factory. It has the DieselSite kit now though.
Made a big difference in the temp. After a long day of jet skiing, and the truck sitting in the hot sun all day, when I go to retrieve the ski I back the truck down the ramp, flip to Max A/C, flip into high idle and let her ice down.
When I get back into the truck it's like an ice box.
I like.

The simple way to do the mod is just to add a brass ball valve in the heater line.
As a test you can just use a wood clamp on the hose to see the difference. For a
fair test you will need to let the heater core cool down, or start the test using
a cold engine when putting the clamp on.
Will this mod work on my truck?I read somewhere that my year Ford changed the system so it doesn't go trough the heater any more.
It never went "through" the heater core. It's just that they let hot coolant run though the core and that heats up the plenum enough to make a marked difference in outlet temps. Mine dropped nearly 10 full degrees doing this mod. It was in the low 50s on Max, and now it's in the low 40s. My Ranger would get into the mid-30s!! I haven't watched this one enough, but I know it gets into the 30s when conditions are right. I just know that I now have to turn the fan down on long drives because it gets TOO cold...
