Smile Need more power?

I have a 89 7.3 w/banks sidewinder turbo. I want to get more power and still be streetable. Is there any good publications out there for us older model ford deisel owners. If anyone has any tips for upgrades for power and mileage, your knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Also were is a good place to look for perf parts for older trucks like mine. I want to show it next year, thought it would be cool to trick out an old 4x4 like mine. Any links would be also appreciated.

Links are going to be hard to find, not many hot parts available for the IDI engine.

www.dps-performance.com does have some information and rebuilds injectors and IP's to above stock levels.

Water and propane injection are kits that add power.

Lots of stuff has to be made or modified like ram air intakes, aftercoolers, and exhaust systems.

This is one of the best sources for information you will find.

you probably mean intercooler, they function something like a radiator. when you presurize the air from a turbo the air heats up, an intercooler cools down the air so its more deace and you can get more in.
basically helps you get more power out of a turbo setup.

Aftercoolers use air to air cooling
Intercoolers use air to water cooling

Even though everyone calls them intercoolers, they are actually aftercoolers.

Actually, the names are dependent on where they are located in the system. Most of the coolers commonly seen are aftercoolers since they are located "after" the turbo. An intercooler would be used in a installation which uses 2 turbos or superchargers in series. This would have a cooler between the turbos. Example would be the late model Cat ACERT twin turbo engines. They have a water cooled intercooler between the primary and secondary turbo and an air to air aftercooler after the second turbo.

There are air cooled and water cooled aftercoolers and intercoolers.
