New Power Plant? Compare to Dodge

Anybody know if ford will be offering a new engine for the 07 f150. I took a ride in my brother in laws ram1500 c.c. with the 5.7 hemi and it scoots right along.
Although I didnt drive one right after the other, the test drive i did in the F150 seems kinda like riding in a v6.

Same powerplant V8's for the 07's. (4.6L, 5.4L)

My 04 5.4L has reasonable acceleration, but not what I would call a screamer. I also know that the 5.4 is capable of much more than FORD is letting it put out. Ask the guys with tuners. Totally different perfromance with a good tune. Changing the shift points alone makes a huge difference. It annoys me that just when my truck starts to pull, the PCM has the tranny shift into the next gear, so the power drops off.

I hope to be able to afford an Evolution tuner within the next year.

CMOS, I agree with ya.

The state of the tuning of our trucks leaves a lot of room for improvement. My Edge should be at the house today. I'm looking forward to changing some of the operating parameters around to see what I can improve.

Smile New Power Plant? Compare To Dodge

I agree that the 5.7 Hemi Dodge is way more powerful then the 5.4 Ford. And it is true that it has taken programmers to unleash the power hidden in the 5.4, as I have done myself. I know many people with Chevys, Dodges and so on, and none of them with their larger V8's get more then 11 and 12 mpg. Ford isn't much different for some people, but my FX4 (5.4) gets steady 13.5 mpg stop and go driving, and I have the slightest of a lead foot. If you look at the acceleration stats on the new Hemi trucks, their acceleration isn't too far from Ford, probably because Dodges are heavier than before and have a stronger frame to try to make them as strong as Ford trucks.

If Ford comes out with the mini diesel in a few years, I would consider it for my next F150.

I do not remember if Ford ever put the 460 in a 1/2 ton, but GM put the 454 and Dodge the 440s in theirs. Those were the good old days when gas was under $1.00 and big block 1/2 tons were the quickest vehicles made.

Not that you buy a truck for fuel mileage but how bad is that Dodge?
