tranny cooler

Any recommendations on the best aftermarket tranny cooler? It's for a 2001 F250 7.3 diesel. Would like to be able to mount it in the stock position without fabricating any new brackets. Do you know how much this will reduce tranny temp? I'm in Phoenix and 110-114 degree days are too common in the summer.

Thx

Does this truck see a lot of offroad use or is it just a pavement pounder? If you aren't taking it off road you should look into a deep sump tranny pan. They make them with cooling tubes in the face, this gives more surface area to the air to cool the fluid. Also, the increased amount of fluid will lower temps as well. As an added bonus these pans are stronger than the stamped stock piece which will brace the housing and reduce the amount of twisting in the tranny/valve body which will improve tranny life. The coolers I have seen reduce the temp of the fluid quite a bit which is important to protect and prolong the tranny life.

The way to cool the trans is a better cooler, not a pan.

The best cooler out there is the stock cooler from a 6.0L truck. It will even bolt right up to the brackets already in your truck. All you need to do is adapt your truck's 3.8" lines to the cooler's 1/2" fittings.

Casey,

Thanks for the advice. Just wondering what makes the 6.0 factory cooler better than an after market cooler? I'm also going to buy an a larger tranny pan eventually but at $300 +/- it will be after the cooler. I just figure a better cooler will cool more than the best pan.

The 6.0L cooler is great because it is so big.

I always put the deeper aftermarket pans on because you get more capacity and they vrace the case a lot better. After putting them on I have never had any complaints from guys who tow a lot or just beat the snot out of their truck. But like you said they aren't cheap.

Get an a/c condensor.
Clean it out.
It covers the entire radiator.

If you need more install some pusher fans.
