More tranny temp. ??

I have an Edge Evolution Programmer that also monitors TFT. I was getting a reading of 200* pulling a 10,000# trailer so I installed a Tru-cool cooler and it reads 170 in Hellsville's heat of 115* with stop & go traffic but without a trailer. I won't know 'till camping weather in the Fall what working Temps are but I expect a significant drop. I would think the Edge is reading the temp off the computer so can I also figure it's taken from a point of highest temperature?
Thanks..

Good question. I wasn't aware that the computer reciecved a temp signal from the tranny.

yea the computer monitors the tranny temp. In fact when cold it won't allow the converter to lock up until the tranny reaches a preset temp. It's not that high but it's there.

Not really sure of where it's taking it's reading but I'm guessing it's inside the valve body where the rest of the electronics are.

iTS HARD TO SAY, I have my gauge off the tranny test plug on the side and I was reading 170D after some driving when I pulled into park, I hooked up my scanner in it was saying I was sitting at 145d, meanwhile my engine oil pan and tranny oil pan felt the same temperature for the most part. So I dont know, I just keep my temperature below 180-185 the best I can although I have hit 195 pulling real hard. In city driving, I'm sitting at about 160-170 and it was 36 celcius yesterday, in ferinhiet, who knows

TFT is picked up from a sensor mounted on the solenoid bank by the valve body. I've seen mine as high as 230 pulling 8k trailer up a 7100ft pass, with twin 25k coolers.

With that said, In my opinion if the temperatures climb on a hard pull up a mountain and the temps hit 200-210-220-230 its not something I have personaly panacked about but at 230 I've backed way off. Its consistent high temps all day long that I would be concerned about for example, pulling on the flat your 10000lbs and temps are sitting at 210, then you need a cooler or bigger one cause its consitent high temps that burn out your fluid, spikes here and thier is whatever, I do filter and complete flush including torque converter every 50,000kms.

Personaly, I just grabbed a big mother of a A/c condensor which is 2/3rds the size of my rad and over an inch thick, if the day is only 22 celcius, I've run as low as 130-140d empty down the highway. Same breath, I've hit 195 on the flats tugging 5 cords of wet fire wood.

But to answer your question................170 of city driving is not bad, its stop and go traffic, you dont have that airflow through the cooler like pounding down the highway

Thanks guys. It seems like the temp the Evolution reads is the hotest the fluid gets. I'll be anxious to see the working reading in the "normal" world, post 115* Summer heat ..
