No 2wd, but 4low works

I know this isn't the correct place for this question, but the appropriate place has less people, with no one offering ideas. You guys work on a lot of things. I'm hoping for some help.

I'm still reading, I didn't see anything yet on this topic.
My 2000 navigator doesn't have 2wd. When in 2wd, it doesn't move. The rear axle is fine.
4wd high, and awd doesn't work. Shift motor maybe... but 4low works. Weird it won't shift to 4hi.

Has anyone had an issue with the rear output of transfer case not working?
The mechanic took the transfer case apart, and couldn't find anything wrong with it.
He's crying because he doesn't want to swap the transfer from my parts navigator to my good one.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks guys

This is the help I get from the navigator forum

That was it... nothing else.

I know the transfer case is broke... that's not what I'm asking.
Need ideas as to what is broke inside so I can fix it. It's a hassle to swap it because it's nested in tight.

If we had this problem on our trucks we would look to the relays, wiring and/or the motor that makes the switches. I would look in that direction on your vehicle as well but it is out of my wheelhouse.

The transfer case shifts from 2wd to 4low just fine. Yes, I need a new shift motor or at least clean the contacts, but it cycles the full range of travel. When it goes back to 2wd, the rear output doesn't work.

Problem is that I'm not doing the work. I'm 650 miles away, and paying someone. And that someone doesn't want to do the work to just swap transfer case from my parts truck into my good one.

When you shift from 4L to 2wd and put it in gear do you hear anything moving in the TC? Is it an electric or manual shifter? If electric, I agree with Mark. If it's manual check the linkages, on my Jeep there's a rod with a bracket that's held in place with a bolt. If that bolt loosens it'll slide on the rod and not shift or it won't completely shift the TC into the appropriate gear.
Assuming your mechanic knows what he's doing then I would assume the TC linkage isn't set up properly. Just a thought.

It's essentially the ESOF similar to the superduty. So it has the electric shift motor. Yes, things move in the transfer case, you can hear it clunk and shift to 4 low. And it makes normal noise going back into 2wd.

You not being there really ties your hands. I would pull that motor off of the transfer case and see if I could get it to shift manually through the hole (not sure how it's done but figure there must be a way) and go from there.

Between 2wd, and 4low, it shifts through full range supposedly.
The biggest frustration is that it's been there for a week, and he could have just swapped the one from my parts truck by now. But he doesn't want to immobilize one truck... he's going to be removing the HVAC from it anyway, which requires taking the whole dash out, so I don't know what his issue is, other than dragging this job out.
