6.9L power upgrades??
Hello all,
I am new to this forum, and an almost new Diesel owner. I just got a 1987 F250 XL 4X4, 6.9L 4 speed...
It has it has 240 000 miles on it and runs really well actually... All the injector caps and lines are leaking, but I am going to take care of that soon....
This truck is BONE STOCK.... and as I said I am a new diesel owner...
I have heard that the Y pipe where the pass side joins is a power robber, so I am thinking of running dual exhaust.....
I am looking at what I can do to get some more go out of it.... I am willing to dump the cash to get the go, but need some help.....
I will take all the advice I can get !!!
thanks guys!!!
Bob

check the articles that show up when you first go to www.ford-trucks.com . there is an article about how to fix that y-pipe.
a turbo is the best way to get a big boost in power. after that you can get a free-flowing exhaust, headers, propane, turn up the injection pump, etc...

Cool... thanks for that link.... I went and checked it out....
I work next to an exhaust shop, so duals are going to cost me parts and beer....not a big deal...
I would LOVE to throw a turbo on there, but with 240 000+ miles... I am going to hang tight on that for now....
Are there IP upgrads that can be done other than re-timing it??? better way to run the air intake??? Im fully open to anything....

Look around in my gallery, click my name and then go to the gallery.
There is an album named "mods and diagrams" at the bottom.
I made an intake out of sheet metal that helps with air intake.
If you think you may want to go turbo, you will need a 3" single pipe under the cab in about the stock location.
True duals are a bit tricky to get by the front fuel tank on the drivers side.
Also if you remove the lid of the air cleaner, if it looks like a derby when you turn it over that projection is called a soup bowl. Carefully cut it off the air cleaner lid with a sawz all. Be careful to not put a hole in the lid top though.
Once you get all that done, we can talk about fuel.
Right now if you put the throttle on the floor at 1500 or so RPM do you have any black smoke in the exhaust?

I am only planing on running the dual exhaust down the pass side, and both dump infront of the pass side rear tire
I dont really notice any black smoke at any time....

dumping the exhaust out in front of the rear tire will lead to a very blackened wheel.
