orifice tube removal tips...

Hi,

I have a 1985 F-150 that I'm retrofitting the AC on. I figured that as long as I had it apart, I might as well replace the orifice tube.

Well... I'm having trouble getting the old one out. I yank and yank on it with needle nose pliers and it won't budge.

Anybody have any tips or suggestions?

Thanks,
Sal

The orifice is held in by an oring that is in a recess in the evaporator high pressure side. You might try and find an orifice extractor tool at Napa or possibly at Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. If you aren't careful you may break the tip off the orifice which will make it very difficult to get out. Usually you have to be able to turn the orifice slightly so as to break it loose from the tube.

Hi,

I got it out. The dang thing broke when I was pulling and rotating it. So I just took my drill and drilled it out. I'll have to be sure to thoroughly clean the evap so no broken particles of it are left.

Thanks for the help!
