1993 4.9 I-300 No Spark

Had original engine replaced 2 weeks ago, all was running fine until today when engine died. It is getting fuel when cranking but no spark. Day was clear dry and around 80 degrees F. Any ideas what went wrong??

Did you try to start it again after it had time to cool off? If that has the EEC-IV computer/ignition system, the ignition module would be my first suspect. I've had them fail when hot, then start and run when cool. Also had one fail and NOT restart when cool.

How can I be sure it has the EEC-IV computer, and where might it be located?

It's a 1993, it has the EEC-IV. The ignition module is located on the drivers side fender tucked back in where it can't get wet. It will look like a small aluminum block with fins on it. It has a plug with 5 or 6 wires stuck in the bottom of it. Take it off and replace it.

After '89 or '90 they moved the module to the fender to help with the heat issue. They rarely go bad, so check you coil too as it really should be replaced when that module is.

Van now running.....After $160 of new ignition module & new coil. Has aftermarket mfg.'s improved upon these parts so they may last longer?? Or, can I expect the problem to rear its ugly head again, sometime.

Honestly, you shouldn't have any problems for many more miles. FWIW my '92 E150 now has over 200k on the original coil and ICM..

Any difficulties in changing the headlamp switch? Sometimes lights come on.....sometimes not.

Hey AFVET, what kind of mileage do you get with your van? I was thinking of buying one very similar.

I'm not sure on the van, but the headlamp switch in the trucks there's a little button you press on the back that releases the **** (it pulls out) and then you can easily remove and replace it.
