Painting Plastic Trim

Painting Plastic Trim
My F-150 is really coming along, and now it's time for the final decision making process and the last steps of the body work.
My truck is a 1994 F-150 XLT with the chrome grill, headlight trim, and bumpers. What I'm wanting to do, because I'm cheap and I don't want to buy new chrome parts, I'm just wanting to prep the grill and the headlight trim doors and paint them black and clear them just like the rest of the truck.
I'm just curious of the correct process for prepping and painting chrome-plated plastic.
Thanks for any insight!

I just painted a door panel from a 73-79 ford with Krylon fusion and I am actually impressed with the adhesion. It is a cheap paint. I am currently trying out color bond from LMC truck for my dash pad, since it is a soft vinyl and that stuff is supposed to be a permanant change in color. I guess I'll wait and see.
