Ais,tymar,qwik Filter
i hear a lot of talk about these filters on the forum and before i found out the qwik filter i had paid like 200.00 for an air raid intake and i am hoping that you guys dont think an air-raid is a hoorible filter and that i need to sell it and get something else - but i want your thoughts - is the air raid a GOOD ENOUGH filter that it wont hurt my truck or performance??
thanks
thanks

Kwik filter uses a Napa 6637, which is a paper element and eliminates the leak-prone, stock airbox. The entire mod can be done for $50 or so.
Tymar - uses a Donaldson filter, but I believe the 6637 will also work. Eliminates the leak-prone stock airbox and replaces the snorkel and plastic battery holder with a stock, early 99 metal battery holder. The mod costs about $175, is cleaner and more 'finished' looking than a Kwik, but functions about the same.
Ask Kwik - he brought the Kwik mod to prominence here, then switched to AIS. He can make a first hand comparison between the two types.

The reason that I switch to the AIS is I wanted to quiet things down and it did that very well.
An added benefit is the AIS is touted to flow more air due to an advance filter media design that flows a lot more than a different air filter that takes up the same amount of space and at the same time provides superior filtering.
I chose not to install the foam sleeve and am glad that I did not. I was able to get boost readings like this and still not have the filter minder move even 1 mm.
This much boost and EGT made me very nervous for my turbo bearings and the rest of the engine as well and have since restored the wastegate settings to stock. I'm going out on another vacation tomorrow and am hoping to limit the boost to 23psi or so.
