BW 1356 won't go to N or 4LO
My Borg Warner 1356 T case on my 94 F-150 w/ M5OD 5 speed will not shift into neutral or 4 Low. I used 4 low a few months ago to get out of a pretty serious mud hole that was up hill, and it shifted just fine. I can't get the shift lever to push down and back, even when the tranny is in neutral. Any and all suggestions welcome.

I had a problem with mine last year, after dissassembly and cleaning, there was a small chunk of what appeared to be aluminum stuck in one of the teeth of the gears that was preventing the t-case from going into N or 4Lo. I'm not sure where this chunk came from, but I pulled it out of the gear and re-assembled and it is working fine now.

Well, if lubing it doesn't work, I do have a disassembly manual in one of my school books (gotta love Lincoln Tech), so it shouldnt be any big deal to tear it apart. Maybe it will wind up being junked so I can have an excuse to get an NP205... if it will bolt up to the ZF I'll be installing....

I already told you, its a Borg Warner 1356, the shift pattern is completely straight. In order to get into Neutral you have the push the shifter down, towards the floor, and then pull it back. Then you can pull it into 4 lo. I just went out and greased up the linkages, so we'll see. I'mm gonna be el pistoffo if my T- case won't shift into lo. Oh well, all I really need for mud is 4 hi anyways.

Well the NP205 will bolt to a ZF, but the aluminium tailhousing is very likely to crack from the weight of a 205. That is why I converted mine ZF S5-42 to a 2wd transmission now and got a divorced NP205. I figured that I would have to change the tailhousings later so the only thing extra on the list for me to do it now was getting another mainshaft for the ZF. Also, as Greensubmarine, Ivan, and Pro and probably some others pointed out to me when I polled them, you can change your driveline angle to make it a little better with the divorced case. An added bonus is that you can put the t-case dead center between axles so that the shafts are inter changeable.
Anyways, for you I would just go ahead and get a 2wd transmission since you are doing the swap anyways. If you dont have a lot of lift, then the driveline angles arent a real concern... but you can always plan on lift.

Right on. I'm glad you brought that up. I tend to prefer divorced t-cases, so thats no big deal. I haven't messed with mine any more since the other day because I've been too busy. I can't drive my truck anyways because I broke my passenger side radius arm mount, and I'm gonna wait until I get my lift kit here in a few days before I mess with it any more.
