What do your hubs say?

My locking hubs say either Lock or Free, from what I understand some say Auto also, what do you have? Just a conversation piece.

Auto/Lock, 2000 XLT, 7.3 PSD, not looking at them right now, but spent plenty of time last weekend!

From my experience...

If you have push button 4x4 then it will say Auto/Lock. If you have the manual 4x4 with the actual shifter then it will be Free/Lock.

I have the switch on the dash but mine say Free and Lock. I think mine was modified by the original driver.

Yep, they probably were. I'll bet that you have the hubs for the manual shift t-cases in place. If they work good, fine. If not, go and get some nice Mile Marker or Warn hubs. Either way, your hubs will not "automaticaly" lock in unless you went to the Ford dealer and purchased the correct auto/lock vacuum hubs. Most likely, the vacuum system has a problem, and that is why someone installed the manual hubs in the first place.

I bought my Ex used and didn't realize until about a month later that 1 hub was auto/lock and the other was free/lock. Apparently the previous owner had some work done and the wrong hub was installed. I found a replacement auto/lock hub on ebay for $25. Everything is good now.

I wonder if it's just a matter of changing the locking hub?
