Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts dirtmack.

Last I heard the Tymar ran around $150, and does fit a 97. You can build your own version of the Tymar for about 1/3 the cost.

Well....you would need the filter, which is a wix 46637 that you can get from Fleet Filter for less than $20. Then you need a 45* exhaust elbow in 4" diameter....something like this click here and a 4" hose clamp.

Remove the stock filter and airbox, install the pipe into the factory inlet tube and clamp the filter on the end of the pipe. Prest chango....home made tymar.

Just bought the intake for my '97 from Tymar with a powdercoated pipe for $130 w/ shipping. Excellent instructions, though you could figure it out without them, and it looks sweet. Could make the switch in maybe 30 min if you don't get sidetracked.

I just bought a HPX and a intake from Dale. The intake was 130 and that was also powdercoated. The HPX was around 30 bucks

What does HPX Mod do? I've read a few references to it but don't know what it does.

The HPX is a line (high pressure hose or steel tubing) that connects the right head high pressure oil passages with the left head high pressure oil passages equalizing the pressure in both heads.

The PCM reads the high pressure oil (used to fire the injectors) through the ICP, which is located in the front of the left head. Since the high pressure oil pump supplies oil to each head through a seperate line the pressure in one head can be different from the pressure in the other head. The HPX install usually makes for a smoother idle and more consistant injector firing across all of the injectors.

re:hpx mod.....
I installed mine a couple of weeks ago.
Much more even at idle now.
Also, that annoying #8 (?) injector knock disappeared.
Money well spent in my opinion!
Took about 45 minutes to install, but I was going very slowly to esure I got it leak proof on the first go-round.
