ok replaced all 8 coils with summit hi-output coils.... Still Missing.. Damn trouble.... couldn't be something easy like traing going out, blown engine.. u know.. something that could be fixed easy. OK just about the only sensor that i haven't replaced MAS airflow and the reason i haven't replaced that is because originally i unhooked it and the problem was exactly the same. so i fugured not that. unless that's how it would run without a MAS airflow... my miss is ONLY between 1,500 and 2,000 rpm bucks bad when holding steady in that range. It is temp related because didn't so it all winter. When engine is warm and it's hot outside it will do it in park.. between 1,500 and 2,000. sounds like no fuel or ingnition totally shuting down. fuel filter was first thing replaced. trainy flyuid and filter change...

well, replaced coils and trouble still there.. also replaced MAF sensore for kicks.. still there. had a reply on another post about cleaning throttle body. will do that next... then i think it's time for the shop. at least they can determine fule or fire. since these stupid cop over coils can't be checked with timing light... geeze

My 2000 F150 with a 4.6 had the same thing going on when I bought it. I changed the plugs, (what fun) still did it so I changed the boots on the coils and that cured it. The boots are replaceable without changing coils and if the boot is leaking spark it can also take in moisture. This was the culprit in my case, might be worth trying.

well i took my throttle body off and sure enough one of the EGR holes was completely plugged with carbon. so i cleaned it up real good in hopes this was the fix all. problem still there.. DAMN. i've replaced about every thing electrical that can be replaced. i wonder if the crank shaft timing trigger could be messed up. But i would think if that was it, it would surely run bad in more than just between 1,500 and 2,000 rpm. only thing fuel related i've replaced is the filter... could a fuel pump or regulator be funny in a curtain rpm range? guess dealer will tell me if fuel or fire

Wow

Sound like you have dropped a pretty good bit of cash in this...... Next time take it to the dealer, pay the diagnostic fee, then you fix it, if thats not the problem and you take the receipt to them from where you purchased the part, they should have to diagnose it free since it was a misdiagosis on their part.

Also, it sounds to me like the lean condition these motors are notorious for. Id have the PCM checked!!!!

i think may only be on triton engines, that have individual coils... coils operate on DC voltage and has to be clean signal. i think this all started after i washed my engine. water must have gotten down into the wiring harness and created a short... just enough that some RF interferred with PIP signal.... all clean now and no worries....

the only thing that gave me a clue was ( course after all electrical was replaced) was that the shop said my PIP signal was some what distorted... not as crisp as most.... so i just reran wires to elemenate wiring harness.... i seen that same year 5.4's have several gound's/sheiled on the cmp wires... mine did not... the manual for 2000 4.6 shows a ground wire from wiring harness to alternater bracket... manual shows it as ( 4.6l only ) i never did see one of those on mine... i'm sure ford has had some complaints and that's why they have sheilded and grounded that circuit in several places..... not sure why they have not had a service bullitin on it..
