408 combo opinions

Thinking about this long block for a bronco prerunner (go fast desert truck).

http://www.dallasexportsales.com/408BLB.htm

I plan to use the Edelbrock Performer 351 EFI truck intake with EEC-IV mass air.

Do you think this combo will run on 87 octane? If not, what CR would I need for 87 octane?

Should I use the stock 351 EFI throttle body or a larger truck throttle body from BBK?
BBK makes a twin 56mm TB. Seems kind of big but worried the stock one will
be too small (what is it, twin 45mm?)

Any opinions on either this longblock or the company?

i would have one built by a local shop. you have more control and will be cheaper. I would recommend AFR 185s or 205 heads. I would also look into a different intake, the edelbrock isnt suited for such a large motor. your gonna need to run a different ecu and a tweecer or get MAF and a custom chip made. you can run 9.5-1 compression on 87

Because of packaging constraints and my desire to stick with Ford EFI,
I think my intake choices are limited to the stock truck intake or the
Edelbrock 351 truck intake. I have suspension and cage work that prevent
the use of a side inlet Cobra style EFI intake (the top of the coilover is just
a couple inches under the hood and supported by cage tubes in the space
the intake plumbing would need to go on a side inlet intake). Just another
compromise on everything.

The Edelbrock truck intake ought to flow better than the stock one, right?

Should I give up on a 408 and stick to a 351 or something in between because
I can't get a front inlet EFI intake that will flow enough for a 408?

Or is it more a case of just selecting heads that will work with this intake?

i would go with a well built 351w maybe bored to a 357 for instance and at least 9.5-1 compression. this will allow 87 if you run aluminum heads and be great combo with the edelbrock efi truck intake.
