'79 400 running rich and smoking
I've got a 79 F-150 with a 400. It's got a 750 Edelbrock 4bbl. There's a port on the back of the carb for a vacuum line. The port was plugged off but some how the plug came off and it started idling high. I got that plugged off but now it's runnin rich and smoking. The smoke is like a gray smoke, like burning carbon. It doesn't burn any oil. Anybody got any ideas?

Black smoke - Rich on fuel
Blue smoke- Burning oil (leaking valve seals)
White/Grey smoke - excessive moisture in combustion chamber.
Btw, NOTE:
If you want people to read your posts, don't fool with the Font.
Just type using the FTE font default.
Just because you can read it doesn't mean everyone else can and
don't make the Reader do all the work.
Do you want to know what that plugged vacuum port is for ?

This is what code is put before the text in your post.
[QUOTE=idgit0488][font=Helv][size=2]
The end has [./font][./size]
Just Leave out the [font=helv][size=2] part.
and type without code.
If you didn't type that in, it must have come from a word program you used to type it up.

There are numerous things that can affect fuel delivery.
Floats, power valves.
Just go through the carburetor adjustment procedure and hope for the best.
Check this out.
