Clutch free play....

hey all,

Got a, well hopefully not, but mabey,.....a problem


my free play in the clutch comes and goes....what i mean is that sometimes the clutch is close to the top then others you have about 2 inches of free play then you hit the clutch....drives fine and everything....never had a problem like this before.....what do you guys think it could be??

Not a mechanic 88 but on older trucks when ever that happened it was usually the

just went for a ride....no free play......got my 30 pack of miller lite and on the way home....free play is back....it's crazy....

Sure it's the truck and not the Miller light? Maybe your just treading lightly after a few.

i do tread lightly most of the time.....i put a post up on the 97-03 part also.....i'm just curious what would allow the clutch to do that.....if something is going to take a crap i'll fix it before it does.....if it's normal whitch i doubt i'll let it alone.....my last couple cars all have been stick and i've never had this before.....seams little weird to me....

Chris, I don't really know on a newer truck, on older sticks that i've had it was usually a clutch rod adjustment or the clutch pedal spring. I have a friend who is a pretty sharp ford guy i'll e-mail him and ask.

First things first is the hydralic system filled if not fill and find the leak.
If it is full it is more than likely the pressure plate if it gets stiff after
it gets hot.

i didn't check the fluid......i'll have to do that tonight.....the free play changes no matter what......if the clutch is hot or not....i guess it could be the fluid or i have a leak or somethign....i'll have to check that out when i get home
