Bored .030 over, balanced, heads port matched and ported, larger valves, cam was custom ground by a place called Cal Cams in Oakland Cal. but I don't know what I did with the cam card and don't remember the specs. Offenhauser intake for 4bbl carb, was planning to run a Holley 450 on it. Bought headers (Headman I think?) to fit a Capri and was planning to modify them to fit. Haven't touched this whole project for years...too many other projects in the works these days.

Hello everybody! So, did somebody tried to set the crankshaft from 4.0 into 2.9 block? I really need to know is it fits correctly and nothing interfere for its rotation?

4.0 motors are like grains of sand on the beach. Why fool with a 2.9 when you can go direct?

I am personally interested in the 2.9, because in my country is not easy to find 4.0 and 2.9, I already have. Bring from abroad crankshaft is real, but the engine is not.
And also because I love to tune cars)

I asked and found the answer by myself.
4.0 crankshaft is really fits to 2.9 block. I found man who put 4.0 crank into 2.9 Ford Scorpio block and made 3.3 turbo Ford Taunus

Breeck, that's a good link to the Taunus turbo, but it's in some different language.

Breek is from Ukraine, so I think that link is Russian.

He hasn't posted since the last one above. Guys like him are a reminder of how "easy" things are here, and how, if you want to hot-rod stuff elsewhere, you have to really go looking for resources, and reengineer, and make stuff work etc on your own.

yes, you're right, it is Russian, and the author of the project (as well as the 2.9T and 4.0T) from Belarus.
My project is now frozen, and it is very much work. I hope to continue it in the summer. In the meantime, I am collecting information.
I'm a little complicated to post here, because my English is not too good. But if I have information on a subject, then be sure to write here, because I represent the club of old Fords as well, and not only I am interested in such alteration.

Cars in other parts of the world

Hi Breeck, yes your English is much better than my Russian (or even French or Spanish!).
Native English speakers have it so easy, there is little incentive to learn another language. Here in Canada, French is also an official language but most people outside of Quebec never learn much of it.

I like to see the cars in other parts of the world. A few years ago I was looking at an Argentine Ford site and got to see backyard engine swaps of the 1970s mid size cars- they came with 292 Y-blocks!

There is a FTE member from Belarus who hangs out in the Aerostar forum of FTE.
Look for him, he knows a great deal about 2.8s, 2.9s, 4.0s and 3.0 Ford V-6s, think his screename is PabloUA.

Here in America, we just use the 2.9s for boat anchors and swap in 4.0s.

There is also an Aerostar member from Lugansk. He's done some very creative things with his van.

A 4.0L crank plus 2.9 rods plus Mopar 3.3L V6 pistons gives almost exactly the same total compression height as a stock 2.9 setip and yields approx. 211ci/3.5L.
Hi to reply to your question the answer is yes the 4.0 liter crank do go in a 2.6 ,2.8 and 2.9 block actually all the block are the same dimension except the 4.0 liter as a taller deck the crank spin freely in the block but its really to close so you have to clearance a bit and for the rod too 2 the original rod are way to short to go with that crank one solution is to shave or flatten tha bob weight about 7mm in its center to allmost to nothing toward the side or using the ford 302 5.315 inch rod with custom piston some in europe have use standard rod with the 3,7 liter jeep piston but are they using the 4.0 liter crank or not that i have no idea but i have try this set up allready and will need the longer rod and custom piston that ist why tom morena is probably the best option its all complete and please the v8 boy dont want to here about your v8 bla bla gas here in canada is 4.5 dollar a gallon so we don't gas guzzler here thank you

Hi
I'm bigro 007 i have try the 4.0 liter crank into 2.6 older version and its spin freely but its to close for confort you will to grind a little the bore so it pass freely the main concern i had is the you will need to grin some more so the rod can spin freely they do not pass otherwise and for those who speak through their hat here is for you boy the original rod do not fit with that 4.0 liter crank and i will be bringing the crank to a machiniste to see if it can be ground down but first mesure is i will need to remove at least 7mm of the counter weight if not more therefore we will need longer rod or second solution is to grind offset a 2.9 liter crank to 84mm stroke and that i will also find out too

for the piston they will have to be custom made no other way i think and finally for the 4.0 liter swap or v8 winder there is a reason for this kind of wanted to stroke that v6 for me in canada i have 2 set of those 24 valve cosworth head but in europe they paid a tax on size of engine so the bigger the more tax you paid so one way to go around the law is to stroke what you have and in kit car they were made for that 2,8 engine not the 2,9 or 4.0 block and in a capri like mine it will become a awd with the ford sierra drivetrain therefor a stupid v8 is out of question for the car and beside the cachet of the capri is that v6 engine and today you can use all that power on the road so my design will be a 1973 capri +awd+v6 24valve cosworth = the look exotic and only one of it kind or very few specially in us and canada so in resume yes the crank does go in but will need longer rod either you turn the crank 1.25mm down or grind inside the block and please v8 winder dont want to here your excuse for putting v8 any where thank you

bigro 007
