'67 F250 wheels and tires

I'm the one with the black and white F250 with split rims. I was reading my owner's manual today and it mentions the rims with "Locking rings" so I assume they are OEM Ford rims. But then in the specifications page they list my truck (F250 with optional 6000 GVW rating) as having 16.5 wheels. The tires I have now are 7.50 - 16 LT bias ply tube type; Mud/Snow traction lugs on back, Kelly Springfield highway tread on front. Is it possible to squeeze 16" tires onto 16.5 rims? Or do you think maybe the original buyer special ordered 16" rims instead of the specified sixteen-fives?

My 69 F250 originally had 16.5 inch wheels. I believe tire size mixing has been done before, but I understand it's a good way to get really hurt or killed.

as gtex said don't try to put 16" tires on 16.5" rims. you can get 1 piece 16" rims from a mid 80s or later truck and put your tires on them but i would prefer radials myself

A good wheel is the circa '93 16x7 OE wheel. It looks relatively stock, but the extra width improves the appearance. This wheel is painted grey; the earlier 6" wheel is argent.

16" tires on 16.5” rims is a deadly combination, see: http://lw.bna.com/lw/19981027/951159.htm

Get your tape measure out and measure your wheel diameter; 16" you'll be OK with 16" tires, 16.5" run like hell.

I'm pretty sure these are 16" wheels since the first thing I had to do after buying the truck is have a new tube put in one of the front tires. It was hard enough finding someone willing to work on the split rim, I'm sure he would have refused to try mounting a 16" tire on a 16.5" rim. I guess what I'm wondering is since the owner's manual lists the OEM tire size at 800-16.5 for my truck with 6000 GVW, do you suppose these 16" split rims were added later or did the original buyer have the option to order 16" split rims in lieu of the 16.5? It would be nice to find an order form for the '67 F250 to see what exactly were the options. I have yet to look under my seat to see if the original build sheet is still there. I should do that. Maybe that would answer all my questions.

Jim:

These rims were very often ordered as an option, absent the build sheet, research would be necessary. What are the date codes on the rim? look on the back side. If you take a look at the registry site, under parts wanted, I have a rim there which would show the positioning of the date code.
