4.8 in a 65 Ranchero

Hi first Ford other than 30's hot rods. I have a 65 Ranchero with a 6 and 3 speed. Thought I could put a AOD on the 200" but wrong year. I know I can do a 302 or 351 but there are a lot of 94 and newer 4.8 Thunderbirds out there. Any one done this convertion?

First off, the engine you're interested in is a 4.6L SOHC (Lincoln Mark VIII has the 4.6L DOHC). The only way to do this is to install one of the rack & pinion kits so you can do away with the shock towers. The 4.6L SOHC is wider than a 460 and the DOHC is even a bit wider than the SOHC. The R&P steering kits are a BIG improvement over the OEM and will give you plenty of room. Oh, you'll just LOVE those 4.6L mod motors!

This is a friends '67 that he put the R&P kit under but he went with a 5.0L HO motor.
