Miles on Mobile 1 oil
I just would like to know what you guys think.{a little history}I run Moble 1 10W30 oil, Motorcraft filters in my 96 4.0 4x4 Ranger.the truck has 146??? miles on it and it uses no oil in 6000 miles oil changes. The truck is driven 130 miles for 4 out of 7 days a week,90% hiway driving 15% city and 5% light wheelin on my days off.
What do you guys think about going to 8000 oil changes or more,or should I stay with 6000 miles changes?

They took Mobile 1 in a Camaro to 18,000 miles, with regular UOAs in this study: http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/mobil1.html

For the record I'm against extended oil change intervals, but you guys may find this interesting. Mobil 1 has a product specially engineered for your extended oil changes. See here: http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/Mo...rformance.aspx

In any case, with your highway miles, I think you could go for a 10k change. I'd do one or two UOA at the beginning, and would open up the spent oil filter occasionally to ensure that it's not getting clogged up.

No, there isn't; but maybe someday you will realize that you're wasting personal resources. A very small amount, but still a waste. I guess it doesn't matter much if you don't owe any money and your retirement is fully funded, however, very few of us are in that position!

Grayranger, the 4.0 is pretty hard on oil. Because of your percentage of hiway driving, it most likely would work but I would suggest changing at 6000 miles and getting a full oil analysis done by Blackstone or any of the other labs. Trending your engine is the key to extended oil changes and that is accomplished by knowing exactly how your engine performs with that particular oil. It may be fine and then again it may be hammered and sheared out of grade which would be my concern. For the $40.00 an analysis costs and the savings for you in oil costs it seems like a no brainer.
