I have a 1983 big bronco with a 351w engine. I want to replace the worn out variable venturi carb with a new 2 or 4 barrel carb. What is the best way to go? This is a stock engine with auromatic and is used mostly to 4-wheel and camp. Should I use something like an Edelbrock intake manifold with a 4 barrel carburetor? If so, what models? I also do not have to get emissions tests if it makes a difference.
Get an edelbrock performer intake with a 500 or 600 cfm edelbrock carb. You will have a choice of manual or automatic electric choke, and make sure you get the kit for the ford automatic kickdown linkage. They may have a carb model with the ford kickdown linkage already installed(Holley does). www.jegs.com has a good selection.
Is there any problem with the EGR stuff? Do I leave all this stuff in place or do you rip it out? Would I have to get the EGR version of the Edelbrock manifold? For the 2 bbl solution, what model Holly carb would it be?
The holley 2300 series carb is the 2 barrel and you can get it with or without electric choke.
I would use the stock venturi carb before an edelcrap carb any day of the week.
They don't even make a very good boat anchor, the pot metal that there made out of is too light.
So what version of the Holley 2300 would be the best for my stock Bronco? Would it be the #O-7448 (350 CFM) for $249.99 or the #O-4412C (500 CFM) for $229.99? Is the 500 CFM model too big?
If all you're doing with the truck is going to the camp and never use the motor to it's full potential, and are't planning on upgrades to the engine, the List # 7448 350 cfm will do fine. If you want more out of the motor then go with the 500.
OK, I got the 4412C (500CFM) with electric choke. What do I need to do to install this thing? What stuff do I need to block off or tear out to make it work? Any help would be appreciated.
I'm not there to see what you're doing , but for the EGR, if it's a separate spacer under the carb with a diaphram switch, remove the switch from the spacer and make a steel cover to replace it. Then just bolt the carb in place of the old one. You'll figure out the rest as far as the fuel line, vacuum hoses and linkage. Just remember to install an inline fuel filter between the carb and fuel pump. Follow the instructions for the choke that're included with the carb. I can't tell you how that hooks up, I never use the things.
The old vv-7200 has a throttle position sensor that connects to the wiring harness. What do I do with this connection? There is also another electical connection on the front right. Can I ignore these? I think the distributor needs this information????
When I got rid of mine I replaced the distributor with a duraspark II. Also an ignition module. At this point your computer is out of the loop and will no longer be able to control egr,AIR, mixture or timing. In short you can remove it and the harness that comes from the computer.
If I remember right it was from a 77/78 . I just had the parts guy search on engine, It was a single vacuum advance. I believe the module was "blue" grommet.
