Fiberglass running board repair
I have a fiberglass running board with a small break on the verticle section, (which seems to have hit a concrete parking barrier by the previous owner), and a 4" long horizontal crack. Looking to know if I could use JB Weld with a piece of metal to support the cracked area, or do I NEED to use a fiberglass repair kit? The total area affected is about 1.5" by 6". One problem is it needs to be on a lift to reach the area, the other is I then need to get it done promptly. There will be no body work done on the finished surface. I just want to prevent any further damage. Thanks!

JB weld may or may not stick.
You can buy a fiberglass repair kit from any auto store though.... what you do on the back side is notch the crack, slather it with resin and hardener, and as it gets slightly tacky, you push on a small piece of the fiberglass mat that's included, then slather over again. Then do another layer (or three) to give it some strength. The on the crack on the face of the part, i.e. what you see, you can skim with body filler, prime and paint once the resin on the back is totally dry (a day or so).
For an area like that, a small kit is more than enough, and will run about $15 or thereabouts.
