Any boat people here?

I've got this OLD 1960 Glasspar boat with a 1960 75HP Evinrude two stroke engine on the transum. I left it out in the weather over the winter and it was completely buried in snow for about six months. Well, the silenoid seems to have frozen up.

Does anyone know of a discount internet source for boat parts. There are a few other things I will need for this money pit before it's all said and done but right now I just need the silenoid to use it on the water.

I got stranded like Gilligan last weekend and the wife wasn't looking like Maryanne when I told her the boat wouldn't start. Why do women get that evil look on their face when they get mad?

So I burned a couple of divits in my leatherman tool to bypass the silenoid, mostly out of fear did I take such drastic measures.
Man, that look on a woman's face when they get pissed. Nothing a six pack of beer can't get me through.

Anyway, if anyone knows of a cheap retailer of boat parts, please post up
Thanks,

One of our members runs a boat shop in Redding - why don't you contact Madathlon and see if he has the part, or knows where to get one cheap?

He sold me a carb real reasonable last year.

Other thing to consider, assuming it's a remote solenoid, as long as the voltage it right, should work.

I/e, I have a Ford remote on my Garden tractor (also have a group 24 battery, but can explain that later), but I went to Kragens and asked for the least expensive Ford solenoid they had, think it was 6 or 7 bucks.

Then again, if yours is intergral to the starter, forget my babble.

Thing is Mike, he does not have an electric starter. He is using a rope pull type. The solenoid he is talking about runs the cattle prod thinggy that makes the man pulling the rope try a bit harder.

Wow, there's some 1960s technology for you...thanks for the visual!

Reminds of a pull start VW-powered sawmill I used to have. I rebuilt the engine and it was too tight to pull start so I hooked it to my old Cornbinder and dumped the clutch in reverse to pull the rope. Worked great!

Probably not the hot ticket out on the water though...(Cornbinder would sink!)

I too thought of the good 'ol universal Ford solenoid. Another thought is to get a small compact solenoid for an electric start motorcycle from a cycle salvage place and adapt it.

I've looked up parts for those older Evinrudes for a co-worker, but I don't recall just where. I Googled it at the time.

I had thought of using an old Ford silenoid but was told by boat people that there is some sort of lock out built into the Evinrude one for safety in starting. I kind of got the impression that it was worth it to by the right part. They said they could get one ordered for around $50. Maybe I should just bite the bullit and get it. That really isn't that much cash when you think of it. But then again there's the voltage regulator that I need too for about $100. Yikes, their pretty proud of that sucker.
I'm getting spoiled with on line buying. It's so easy, and the price is usually better, and they ship to your door. These days, free shipping is nice 'cause gas is so high, and where I live everything is a good distance away.
Modesto is a bit far from me but I'll try and look up Madathlon. Is that his screen name?
