68/69 alum grilles , and camper specials
I am still curious why some of the trucks had aluminum grilles and some the sheet metal? Ranger option only? Camper Specials?
It sure wasn't a effort to lighten these beasts!
Mine was sold to me as a Camper special, F250. any way to verify?
Does it really matter?
I have three gas tanks, is this a tell tale sign?

It was styling - nothing more, nothing less. As far as I know, in 69 the base model trucks came with white painted steel grilles and headlight doors. The Custom trim package included plain unpainted aluminum grilles and headlight doors. The Ranger and Explorer (a minor upgrade on the Ranger) came with the most body trim, interior fake woodgrain, and used the aluminum grille and headlight doors, but with a red stripe painted across the center bar of the grille, and with the insides of the headlight doors painted black. I have a 69 F100 Explorer equipped that way. Incidentally, the only real way to identify an Explorer package truck is by Explorer badge on the glove box door and a few pieces of unique interior trim. On the outside, they are identical to Ranger package trucks, right down to the red "Ranger" badge in the center of the grille and the multicolor "Ranger" emblems on the bedsides.

This is great information, I am taking delivery of my 69' F250 Ranger next Friday, they guy I am getting it from painted the headlight bezels all black and they look funky. So you are telling me that I should strip them back to aluminum and then paint only the inner ring black to be correct on the Ranger Series? Thanks again.
