MPG getting better with Southern Gas?

I'm on vacation in WVa and even since I left the NYC area (87 octance + 10% Ethanol) and have been running 89 octane + 0% ethanol, my mileage is up by 10 to 13% (21.4 MPG on mix of Interstate and mountain roads).

I think its the different gas mix (better gas and no ethanol) while the wife thinks its my driving (no a#*hole drivers cutting you off, etc).

Feedback please...

BTW, Lots of nice folks down here in WV. I mean REALLY nice folks. Stopped to help an older couple change a blown tire and the guy insisted I accept a jug of local "octane booster". At least that's what it smells like, either that or TB cleaner.

Wva and Kentucky get critisized because of all the hillbillies, but in all honesty, you will never meet a better bunch of people. This past year I drove down to southern Ohio most every weekend to visit my girlfriend at college, and really enjoyed everybody's company. We'd hop on 23 and go to Ashland Kentucky or continue on down to Huntington WV and I swear you don't know a stranger down there. Nice folks.

I'm not an expert on this, but I do know that higher ethanol usage in gasoline does decrease MPG's. If you talk to the folks with the flex fuel 3.0's in the Rangers, they will all tell you that they got better MPG's with standard gasoline (10-15% ethanol) versus running E85 (85% Ethanol-15% Gasoline.) But look on the bright side, Ethanol comes from Corn, and Corn is produced by American Farmers. So I'm all for it! I'd rather see my money go to help out farmers like myself than goin to the Middle East.
