Just go to any speed shop and they should have a holley section..you can buy just the MB gaskets as a set for a 4150 or a 4160, unless your kit has both types.
Make sure you match-up EVERY gasket...I know some of them only have one little hole different...
The difference between the 4150 and 4160 is the 4160 does not have a rear metering block, but a jet plate that has both idle and main jets in them. Most kits have the extra gaskets for both styles of mettering blocks. The bowls are the same.

right, i was trying to keep in simple...that and I wasn't really sure that his 1958 carb had a metering plate or not..that was before my time...lol
There are however two different bowl gaskets too...one of them has a hole in the lower corner into the block(front) and the other doesn't...obviously if your block has the hole there..you dont want to use the solid gasket!

*edit..I just looked...it looks like the Holley bowl gasket are universal and have the extra holes in all of them...The Napa kit may have direct fit gaskets...This is why I say, just to check them closely.

That is why I suggested he uses the 4150 in the first place, because of the adjustability of the rear jets...

But the jets are adjustable on the rear of the 4160. You just change the jet plate, there are most jet sizes available.

Come on dude..you know that I know that..you also know that most shops dont carry jet plates...
I'm talking about the ability to fine tune the carb with commonly available jet kits.

I seriously doubt they make every jet size in the plates and I am sure a plate cost a whole lot more than jets!

Let's not turn this into a "who knows more about Holleys" contest, ok?

This is what I know about my holleys. . . .

I put that 58 carb on craigslist for $150, and already got a bite on it.

Thanks for the plethora of information guys. I do believe I am lost now.

Here's some more info...

It looks as thou the butterflys are a decent size already. Maybe somebody(my dad) already has changed out the palte on the bottom. Does anyone have information on what size the butterflies are on a 600, as opposed to a 450, 465.

Thanks,
mike

I believe a 600 is 1 9/16 holes...the others would probably be a 1/16 to an 1/8 under that...
Are the holes bigger on youe 4150 carb than your 4160?

I cant find the exact sizes maybe bear knows...I have a 600 somewhere around here..if you need, I can go measure it up?

I'll run home during lunch with my digital calipers and measure them up. I didn't hae the calipers last night, so couldn't check. However, they looked to be same as to each other. Then again, I've been known to have a 1/16" pass by me here and again.

Yes, the 450 and 465 should be the same bore size IF they are stock...whatever size they are the 600 should jump up a 1/16"..The plates are cheap..just order one for the 600 when you rebuild the carb.

They are called base plates and I doubt they stock them.

I seriously doubt NAPA would have it

BTW, I have a 600 double pumper here it measures 1.5" bores I believe the vac. sec. would be the same.

i have to say this has been interested researching this...its been awhile for me...
I just found this site
http://oldholden.com/possible/index.php/Holley_Information_Table1

Which has loads of info...based on the larger Venturi size of the main body..I would say you cannot make a 600 out of your carbs..
I would look for a List 1850 carb on ebay and rebuild it..they are pretty reasonable..

As we suspected your two carbs are basically are the same size bores and Venturis...
pretty much good for a small block..
Both of which are in high demand for people restoring early SBF's and especially the one with the OEM numbers on it..
Sell both and buy a good 600 CFM Vacuum Secondary carb...good luck!

The is Holley tech site http://www.holley.com/TechService/ then scroll down to the "Tech Library" the peruse the list of info. Carb list number gives specs from the 1850 on.

The 1738 (465cfm) measured at 1-7/16, and the 4548(450cfm) measured @ 1.5"

Napa didn't have and he referred me to Baxter's. Dude at Baxter's said he could get one for a 600 and they measured 1-9/16, as you stated, but said probably wasn't worth it. My dad has about 5 er 6 more carbs I can rumage thru, so I'm gonna hit them this weekend. Maybe find another, I may be able to use.

Where's good place to purchase new carb? Summit, or best to just go to local auto parts dealer and save on shipping?

Mike
