302 in a Jeep?

I would think it should but year comes into play. I don't know any specifics on them as to how much troubleit will be to make it all work, as in transmission and such. I know the older AMC built units weren't that much of a problem to do, as some even came with Ford tranny's in them. I have seen an older CJ that had a 302 in it, it was a Ford issue tranny, so it wasn't a big deal.

what engine is in the jeep now? if it is the 4.0 six cylinder or 258 six,an amc 304/360/401 will bolt right up and he will only need motor mounts and to change the fuel line routing.I am not saying the tranny will hold up to the extra power, wrangler trannys were not that strong. the other option is to buy a $500 or so adapter from advance adapters so the ford engine will bolt up to the jeep tranny. I am a ford guy,but the jeep engine would be cheaper if you could find a good running amc v8 that doesn't need rebuilt. when it comes rebuild time, the ford will be lots cheaper,so it's a toss up. I liked the power difference when I swapped the amc 360 into my 86 cj7 where a 258 used to be,but those were the good old days. that jeep is sitting in my garage in several different pieces waiting for me to get the money for a new frame or to be parted out. there is a good jeep forum at off-road.com. just go to the jeep short wheel base bbs(forum)
