1st gen Lightning cam question

I was told that the 1st gen Lightnings cam was the same D3OE grind that '82-'84 and '85 CFI 5.0L Mustangs and Capris had. Is this true and if so why would Ford use an 11+ year old profile?

Same. No point in using a car cam (designed for high end hp/tq) for a truck engine (lower end grunt).
