Help, Water pump pulley spacer

I have purchased a Thermal clutch fan assembly that I want to put on my 1970 F-250. The truck currently has a fixed 5 blade. My problem is that the spacer between the pump pulley and fan blade is to long for this new clutch fan. Anyone have a part number or know where I could find the correct spacer? I have look at most of the popular places on the net with no luck. Junk yards have been picked over to death. I feel sure that this spacer was used on many different Ford model cars also. Can someone please provide some guidance?
Thanks,
Lee

Help, Water pump pulley spacer

Most of the vehicles I've worked on with a clutch fan had no spacer on the pulley. The spacer on the pulley was used to simulate the clutch assembly on a fixed fan. But I haven't worked on your particular year so maybe it's different.

Help, Water pump pulley spacer

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Feb-02 AT 09:03 PM (EST)]Spacer on a clutch fan ?
I never heard of it,usually the clutch has the mounting flange on it.

What length is this spacer you've got?

Help, Water pump pulley spacer

Thanks for the replys.
The current set up with the fixed fan has a spacer that is approxamately 3-4 inchs in length. This spacer is between the fan blade assembly and the water pump pulley. Four bolts go through the front of the fan blade assembly, then through the spacer, continue through the water pump pulley and thread into the hub on the pump itself.

The clutch fan assembly I have came off of a 67 Ford car with an FE. It does have a hub on it. I don't believe I can bolt this assembly directly to the water pump hub because the bolt hole spacing is off. What I mean is, the 3-4 inch spacer I mention above is not constant in diameter. It appears to have a slight taper going from pulley to fan. I will probably try and fit it directly to the pump but first have to go buy some shorter bolts. Only thing I am conerned about is that the fan will be setting to far back from the radiator when bolted directly to the pump pulley.

Help, Water pump pulley spacer

Update:
I have picked up some shorter bolts and installed the clutch directly to the water pump. It fits OK. Only concern is that the fan now sits alot farther back than the old fixed fan. Have to see about getting a shroud now.
Thanks,
Lee

You did exactly what would have been suggested had we got back to you earlier.
Fan shroud is a good choice.
Bad news ,you have to take fan back off, place the shroud over the pump toward the engine, re-install the fan blade, then attach the shroud to rad surround. There is no room to do the fan,if you attach the shroud first.
