73 Parts Truck? Bed Question.

I am looking at buying a 73 truck for parts for $200. All in all truck is in pretty good shape body wise, with just a few areas of rust. One is the troublesome spot at the front of the bed has a small amount of rust. My bed it trash, it is rusted over both fender wells, and at the front section of the bed. I was hoping to use both beds to come up with one good bed. Do you think this is a good price for a parts truck? It has a 302, not running. Also, on the bed I would like to use the main upper moulding, but the parts truck bed does not have the upper moulding and the "****" that stick out for the mounting clips to connect to. Can I use a screw? Anybody had experience with this?

What truck do you have? Tell us the year and model of your truck as well as the parts truck you're looking at,i.e. F100,150,250...? The F100 & F150 beds are interchangeable, with the biggest difference being the location of the fuel doors.
The F250 4wd's had a narrower frame than the F100 & F150, so you would need to redrill the bed, or make offset brackets to make the bed fit. For 2 bills, it sounds like the parts truck is worth it.

I would say he has 73 judging by the user name.

$200.00
You never listed any options it may have for you to use or sell.
You never described the rest of the truck for anyone to give an half educated opinion

You can use a screw or a rivet.

My truck is a 73 F100 Ranger and the parts truck is a 73 F100 Custom. Like I said body is straight with only slight amount of bed rust. Both are 8' boxes. 302 motor, not running, manual steering, other parts of the truck seem to be in good usable condition....not much else to say other than that. Fuel doors are the same round type...no fuel door, just cap. That doesn't matter to me anyway because I am shaving that and moving the fuel cell access to inside the bed. I was just curious to know about the moulding fit, and whether the price sounded ok.

73FOMO,

Yes, the bed will work just fine. As will the moulding, do like Mil1ion said. $200 sounds like a good deal to me. Heck a good usable bed here can go for $400. Plus, I'm sure it has many other useful parts on it.

One thing on the rust, make sure to get rid of it completely. Don't just sand down to bare metal. Cut the rust out and extend your cut about 1/2" or so beyand the rust. Then attach your replacement panel. This will ensure you have gotten of the rust completely. Sounds like a nice project, post some pics when you can.
