02 V6 Escape Auto: Humm when stopped in drive?

We just bought a 02 Escape XLT with about 35k. Everything seems to be good with the vehicle except a humming noise when you are stopped in drive. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it normal? The noise isn't very loud and if you had the radio on you probably wouldn't notice; however with the radio off you hear it every time. I've never had an auto that did this before.

Thanks

Well, I'm not there to hear it, but a couple things that come to my mind: fuel pump (normal) or exhaust heat shield rattle. Is the noise coming from the front, rear?

Air conditioner? Cooling fans? Alternator? Etc.? Humming noises are usually normal in the engine compartment.

Thanks for the responses. I'll have to get under it and try and figure out where it is coming from. Since you mentioned it, it does remind me of the fuel pumps I have heard in some performance vehicles.

I'm thinking the fan is it. Doesn't make the sound cold.

Thx
