Tow Command TBC Fault

Hey Guys

Today I saw TBC fault (again) come across my dashboard message display. Oddly enough I didn't have my trailer on my truck at the time. I've had this happen (intermittently) before. I didn't have my trailer on my truck at the time either. Can anybody tell me how to diagnose this further?

Thanks

Sounds like a loose connector or chafed wire to me... maybe check and make sure all the connectors into the TBC are seated properly?

Intermittent problems are a real pain...

Bet I know where it is, too. Just had a 5th wheel hitch put in my truck and had another plug wired into the bed for brakes and lights. If I were a betting man I'd bet I got a loose connection where they spliced the bumper pull trailer connecter to the bed connecter...........bet thats where it is

If you don't find something real obvious like a cold joint or chafing where they spliced it, be sure to check out the connector they put up in the bed. Sometimes folks miss a few strands of wire on something and it'll short in there.

For the life of me, I really do not understand why Ford doesn't just offer a trailer plug in the bed as an option right form the factory. I wrote that on my survey when I got the '04.

Will most definately give it a look. Have to go get the oil changed in my truck tomorrow so I'll have them poke around underneath it while it's there..

Same problem I had. When the TBC Fault showed it would turn of the cruise control and affect the radio. Dealer changed master cylinder cause they had other cases of the fault and a new master cylinder fixed it. It did not fix mine. After many trips to the dealer it was fixed. He claimed that some pins were bent over in one of the electrical connector blocks under the hood. Apparently damage was done at the factory.

I haven't seen that kind of problem myself. It just flashes TBC command fault when I start the truck, then it operates normally. I'm just concerned because I'm about to start pulling a trailer and don't need the hassel of the brakes control acting up.
