Oil filter relocation kits?

Yes, they make changing a hard to reach oil filter a breeze, from hard to reach locations. I had one on a car I had years ago (1969 Dodge Dart GTS 340) and it worked beautifully, with no problems. It used a FL1-A oil filter, or the same 1 QT. V8 oil filter. The only "hard" part was deciding where to mount the bracket, and once you decide the rest is a cupcake installation. Just try and run your oil hoses (make sure you use the correct oil-line hoses, designed for oil pressure and oil heat) away from direct or very close contact to your exhaust manifolds or pipes.
Many street machines use these oil filter relocation kits, including all out race cars. I've seen both remote dual filter setups, but I feel a single oil filter kit is more than adaquete (for some reason I cannot spell that word, but you know what I mean?) Once you do it, you'll wish you had done it sooner. I've seen oil filters remounted in the hood area, or even from underneath the car, where access is much better. Also, kits are available from Summitt Racing, Jeg's etc. Call those type of places with your specific vehicle and engine size, and they might be able to tell you right where to mount the new oil filter. Ed
PS They are worth the price, IMO, $35-$75 average. I say go for it, it's really a easy procedure. Some kits, I beleive, even come with a DIY instructional DVD, I remember reading about. good luck...

I did mine a couple of years ago. wish I had done it sooner. I got mine as a kit from Summit. I've got a 97 F-250 4x4 5.8L. I put my filter inside the frame rail just before the drivers door. No more oil all over the front cross-member. It's so easy and clean now, I have to force myself to wait until it's time to change the oil. Good luck.

I installed my TD Performance kit (single) about a year ago. It works great and is a real time and mess saver. I mounted mine on the coolant tank / windshield washer fluid bracket (90 full size Bronco). The kit comes with 2-30" neoprene hoses with fittings. Eventually, I'd like to replace the neoprene hose with braided stainless steel hoses. I highly recommend this addition.

I could not agree more! The braided hose adds much more safety, virtually eliminating any and all types of punctures or cuts that could occur. Same with braided fuel hoses, etc.
Holland, your installation sounds good too! If any of you both, or someone else reading this, could post any digital photos of your oil filter re-location application, I would enjoy seeing it. Ed

As long as your oil lines have no kinks or bends, I don't see where this is a problem. Also, even in the 70s, people used those relocation kits on commercial cargo vans, that racked up miles quickly, and made the oil filter change quick and easy. So remember, those oil filter kits are not just for street machines and race cars. Cargo vans, Taxi fleets, and Police Cruisers, I have seen them on (Police cruisers, when you can buy them at an auction for your private use) and as I said, they've been around since the 70s, maybe longer? If you have any sites, stating what you said, please post, as I would like to read it. Ed
