04 Excursion, Aftermarket HU, Stock Rear DVD, It all works

I got it all to work. I have a 04 Excursion with the Rear DVD and Screen. I replaced the stock radio with a Alpine HU with Navigation. After you do this, the Rear DVD stops working. It will not even power on. But, it was really easy to fix.

All you have to do is jumper the ASYSON wire to an accessory power source. I used the power from the radio wire harness. Then you need to ground the DRAIN wire. Thats it. The Screen and DVD power up and audio works with the wireless headphones. It will not play audio through the speakers and you can not use the wired headphones in the center console. But, for most people that will not matter.

I am not posting wire colors or pins, because they will be different, depending on year and model. But, they will all have the ASYSON and DRAIN wire. Just get pin out for your radio and it takes about 5 minutes. You never have to drop the LCD. All the work is done at the harness in the dash.

Others have posted details about having to jumper wires at the LCD, but I did not.

Sorry, but I don't have any PICs. For your harness, the first thing I suggest is you pull the factory head unit and confirm what connectors you have on the back of the radio. They are not all the same on all models and trim levels. Then go to www.installer.com and get the phone number for that site. Call them and tell them what aftermarket you are installing and what connectors you have. They will hook you up with the right harness.

If you are installing a Alpine double din, don't bother getting the metra kit, it will not help. With the Alpine double din, you need to shave or sand the lip on the dash surround bezel all the way off on top and bottom in the stereo opening. Then you have to figure out how to install the Alpine. It fits fine, but is impossible to secure in the opening without making something. I got creative and used wood shims and some screws. Works great.

In the 20 pin plug on the back of the head unit, the black wire is the drain and the light green/black wire is the ASYSON.
