Well I have two sets of bearings now for my 400 one ACL one Clevite both sets of the mains are block side no cap side this is rediculous. Am I wrong? new stuff here? when I pulled it apart they were normal style half groove...

You probably have old style fully groove bearing sets. Around '77 they went to half groove bearings. Opinions vary, but It doesn't make any difference which style you use, they both interchange.
