How to ship a car to Hawaii?

Does anyone know how to go about, or can offer information on how to ship a vehicle to the Big Island, Hawaii from Pa? I would like to leave the end of 06 beginning of 07, and trying to sort losing a great deal of money on the van I have, put it in storage, or ship to Hawaii. I have not been able to locate a shipper via the net, and the few that I did, never returned my phone inquiry. Thanks!

Hi, I don´t know if this will help you but I know a very good and serious business in California who ships out to everywhere I guess. They are called California Shipping and might be able to help you with the shipping PA to CA. I have used them for shipping to Sweden many times and with no problems. You can reach them at 714-590-1999. / Hans

The problem may be to get one company to handle it all. I have shipped two cars to Hawaii and used American President Lines. I drove them to the docks in San Pedro and it was no problem. Getting it trucked from PA and then transferred to the ship might be more difficult. Get a copy of Hemmings Motor News (published in Hershey) and look at ads for antique car transportation companies.

I think it'd cost more to ship than to just sell and buy something over there

Doesn't Hawaii have a law where you have to take a vehicle (junker or wreck) off the island in order to bring a vehicle into that state?

It's a two-step- getting it to Cali or Tacoma, then to Hawaii. Probably $1500-1700 to the west Coast, then another $2000 or so to ship to Hawaii. The only upside is Hawaii is one of the most expensive places on the planet to buy a car. Downside is, it'd have to be a very late model rig to make it worth your while.

Never shipped a car but I have shipped many helicopters to Hawaii, we just flew them to Long Beach landed on a pallet removed blades tail boom and battery. Secured to pallet then FED-EX loaded into a 747 and flew it to Hawaii. As advertised "overnight"

Ocean freight is closer to $1000. The problem with buying a used car over there is rust, not salted road underbody rust, but tropical salt-spray rust.

I think Madsen Lines ships out of Oakland. I used to truck margerine to their terminal and saw cars loaded into their containers.

www.craigslist.org might get you someone who will drive your car to Oakland for cheap or free, in exchange for being able to drive it.

I suggest you go to Hawaii's website (they MUST have one) to look for info.

Just drive to FL, put some barrels on it, fill the back of the van with extra fuel, and put a propeller on it. it'll float down there I reckon.

Well... you could find something to do with all 70000 beer cans you left at your last appartment, and float it down that way...

Good luck with tat
