I upgraded to the pertronix ignitor last weekend! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

Took about 30 min to install. You'll need a flat head screwdriver, and possibly a wire stripper and connectors (depending on coil setup).

Go ahead and get the flame thrower coil (or equiv) when you get the ignitor.

Its a breeze to put it in and it made a world of difference on my truck. But then again, my points were pretty crusty..

But I'll never have to deal with points again!!!!

Oh yeah, got the system from JEGS for $75. plus shipping

Go to ebay and type in "pertronix ford"

You'll find several places that sell them much less than typical retail. I got mine for like $60 delivered. ~$30 more for the Pertronix coil.

That's the ignition, but I'm not sure about the coil. FYI autokraftors reschedules these auctions constantly. So don't bid much more than $55. It will come around again for 49.99 in a couple of days.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Mar-02 AT 09:49 PM (EST)]When you get this, do u have to change the gap on the spark plugs? Also i think i might already have a coil that'll work. it looks very similiar to the 40,000 flamethrower, how can i tell if it'll work ok.... if i put a photo of it on here would that help?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Mar-02 AT 01:42 PM (EST)]from going to web site to web site i found a site with a coil i have on it.. I found out that i dont need to get the flamethrower, because the flamethrower is 40,000 and i have a ultra coil that is 65,000. would that be too much power for the pertronix... A mechanic told me it was too much for the points so he took it out. here is a web site with the coil on it...

I have never heard of the "petronix" ignition you speak of(I don't get out much) but I have been running my electronic ignition in my 1970 390FE motor for about five years without a problem. It is a junkyard special, wiring, coil, and distributor, from a 1975 P/U and a new(didn't trust the junkyard one) ignition box $35. I put in a set of Platinum plugs(worth the money)and I now have over 30,000 miles on it and have never had to adjust the timing. I pulled the plugs out at 25,000 miles and they looked like new. I dont have much over a hundred dollars in it and really like it. I use the plug settings for the 1975 year model.Just another option for you.

Highboy, could you tell me how you connected your duraspark ignition on your truck. I am wanting to do it to my 72 302, but wasn't sure where all of the wires needed to go.

CJ, yeah they say to open up the gap on your plugs - I run autolite 46's on my 240 and opened them from .035 to .048 and side-gapped them also.

Side gapping Chris,is when you file down the ground electrode to a distance so instead of covering the center electrode it sparks from the side instead of Under.

Atre you also asking about your temperature gauge and wiring it up to the sending unit?
