Adding cruise control to a 2005 F150 4.2L

Hello! I'm trying to figure out how / if cruise control can be added to a 2005 F150 with the 4.2L V6. I bought an aftermarket kit, popped the hood, and then learned all about electronic throttles . What (aside from adding the cruise control switches) do you have to do?

Thanks!

Jamie

it's easy, but the kit from the dealer, and have it installed there, it is a new steering wheel wiht cruise switches in it, and then teh dealer must reprogram the pcm and turn on the cruise control function, that's it, dont know the price of the kit, but should be 1 hour to install

Cruise Control

Thanks for the info! Do you have (or can you get) a part number for the kit?

Thanks!

sometimes you can find a steering wheel with cruise on ebay alot cheaper than the dealer. the dealer will charge about $50 to turn it on. its pretty easy to do yourself.

Cruise Control

Unfortunately my local dealer seemed somewhere between clueless and uninterested. Maybe I'll see if I can get a wheel off of eBay like it was suggested and talk to another dealer about reflashing the PCM. Has anyone here had this done (or done it if you're a tech)?

Thanks again!

Jamie,

I had purchased my steering wheel for about 100bux, (98.xx) from a dealership in the next state over (NC) and went back home to Greenville and had my dealership put it on. This was also a clueless thing for them too. But after careful coaxing and the potential that I'd bring'em return buisness for similar things, I talked them into it. They figured if their techs knew how to replace one for (any) reason they should know how to put on in for the first time. I did remind them however that it would have to be turned on in the pcm/ecm (they prolly knew already). So right less than 70bux and a hr later, out comes my truck with cruise control. Final cost ...approx. 169$ including a brand new steering wheel. I would have attempted it myself, but I was home on vacation- and wanted to keep my wrench turning to a minimum.

I forgot to mention,
I think I have the p/n scribbled down somewhere...if not, I believe there was a few lenghty threads on the (by searching) "Adding cruise" topic...maybe you can catch the p/n there too...

may be tricky trying yourself, remember your messing with the air bags, and I have seen them deploy while the veh was in a shop and the tech didn't follow the instructions correctly

Black Speed Control
Part Number: 4L3Z-9A818-AAA
MSRP: $165.93

Note!: I didn't pay nearly that much by purchasing it locally from a dealer. (Dale Jarrett Ford) The dealer had 4-5 on the shelf- everyone else would have had to order it. The 165. is pretty close to what I paid for the kit and install together. I purchased it at Dale Jarrett and had my Local dealer (Fairway Ford) do the swap.

I see y'all are clueless as the ford dealer about installing cruise control on the 2004 to 2008 F150.
www.bought4less.com sells the cruise control kit for $120. It must have the ECM flashed.
Great thing is it looks and operates like factory.

Clueless?

I dunno, maybe this module wasn't available way back in '06 when this thread was first posted. And '07's and '08's weren't even being made yet.
