Hello again board, been a while since I begged upon your knowledge but my 2001 F-350 has been taken over by demons. Sorry for lore but could not shorten and get all the facts. Everything was fine when I parked it yesterday then when I go out to start it this morning the blower fan was running. Ignition switch off, key in my pocket. Turned the control to off and the fan quit. I have had to replace the relay before but never had it turn on in the night? Truck starts OK and when I start to move the OD light starts to flash. Truck goes and shifts OK but speedometer is crazy, been there before, the sencer on top of the rear end right? Well I keep driving because everything acts normally otherwise and a few miles down the road the door chime starts up at about 1/2 normal db. No seat belt light or door ajar lght on the dash, just the chime, 5 times then pause, then 5 times etc. I start to think I should turn around and take another vehicle to work at this point but the thingis going along all right. Chime did quit for a while then started up again just as I got to the office ( 1 hour drive) Get to work and shut off, blower still running so I pulled the relay (have a spare in the box) new relay clicks in and runs blower too. Then I noticed head lights were still on but no chime. Shut everything down and came into the office and got on here.
Probably a long shot but what the heck?? Has been raining here for about two weeks straight and truck sits out. Anyone one want to take a shot at this? Oh yeah its a 4x4 'stroker
Wow, I think I would have jumped out expecting a bomb to go off any second! The only part of it all that is disturbing to me is the OD light flashing, this should trigger a service code in the computer. May be worth the $50 to have the dealer hook it up to the computer? Could be something in the brain/ECU that is causing the other electrical issues. It is obviously trying to tell you something, maybe morse code

windshield replaced recently?? almost sounds like water ingestion in fuse box//gem modules--look really close at box for green fur!!--odd though that a water leak would just start to occur!
Thanks guys, truck has been sitting 2 hours and I just got out to check things out. Door chime has returned to normal as has the head light warning chime. Heater fan still runs when it souldnt. Fuse box on the side I can see is dry, blew the dust out. Do I need to remove the fuse panel and look on the back side? Relay panels under the hood are dry inside but dusty blew them out and no changees. Is there problems where the wires go throughthe firewall on these? Going to drive across town now and check out the speedometer problem. thanks again
Pull the fusebox/gem out and look closely at the seam around the fusebox. We were just looking at one yesterday that was dry, but you could see "green grunge" corrosion seeping out from inside. May have been wet in the past, and took some time to exhibit problems.

im stumped but i bet the puter is/was wet
i agree with the others either the fuse panel or the ECU
just a question have you had to boost it lately ?? i left my dome light on a few weeks ago and boosted my 01 the speedo didnt work and it was doing some funky things till i reset it.

The solution to one problem (the five tones, then pause, then five tones, etc. etc.) is that it's an issue with the air bag system. Here's a thread with the info on that:
OK, more info. I am leanng towards the moisture deal. I left it running at the office with the heater on full blast for an hour, got kids warm in there, LOL. Shut it off and the heater motor quit like it should and everything has returned to normal. Tonight I tried to take the fuse box and whatever is on top of it, 'puter?, and cant figure out how to get it out below the bottom of the dash. wires are about 2" too short. There is LOTS of dust under there but no moisture like leak just dampness from air (I think) Need some help with how to get the thing out from under the dash. Some way to undue the wire harness beforehand? Once out can I take it aprt where it piggybacks together to clean and check connections? Sorry for all the questions and thanks again.
Don't be sorry for all the questions. If no one asked questions then what kind of forum would this be? It would be pretty boring. Someone will be by soon to help you out.

I know this thread was started 2 years ago, but if anyone has their results to what the problem is, could you post it here? I have the same problems as others. Fan blower stays on after taking keys out of the ignition, overdrive light flashes on and off, strange clicking sounds behind the steering column. I had the GEM replaced a few years ago. My truck is a 2000 F250 PDS with 178,000 miles on it. I bought it new, so I know the history of it. I did replace both batteries and alternator a few weeks ago.

To take the whole assembly out, you need to remove the electrical connections. Just unplug the ones that go to the GEM, and you need to unscrew the two large square ones that go to the back of the fuse panel. I believe it is an 8 or 10mm (But don't hold me to that). You will need to use a 1/4" Drive because of space limitations. It will take a little patience. Make sure that you undo them all the way, because backing the screw/bolt out actually pulls the connection apart.
