New Shocks - Check Susp Light - Automatic Ride Control
Vehicle: 1999 Ford Explorer 4x4 XLT
I installed new shocks on my Explorer this past weekend. It was a little more difficult than I expected since I had a bolt frozen in the old shock absorber sleeve. Before I began, I made sure that I turned off the switch for Automatic Ride Control in the rear jack compartment.
When disconnecting the rear automatic ride control shocks, I cut the air line as it entered the shock, and replaced them with new non-automatic ride control shocks. However, now my dash console light for 'Check Susp' comes on indicating that there is an issue, and I can hear the air system attempting to pump air into the shocks as I ride down the highway. I imagine that this is occurring because I didn't disconnect some plug or fuse related to monitoring the automatic ride control. Can someone please tell me where this plug or fuse is located? I saw many plugs near the automatic ride control system under the truck, but didn't know which one to attempt to disconnect since I am just a weekend mechanic. Any insight would be helpful.
Thanks!

Yours might be different, but the EVTM for a 97 shows mini fuse 5 in the power distribution box is wired ONLY to the "automatic ride control switch." Can you just turn this switch off?
This switch "Deactivates ARC system during service operation."
And on the 97 PDB maxi fuse 12 is wired ONLY to the relay that controls the compressor. Removing that fuse will stop the compressor from running.
Check the fuse list in your owners manual.
