anybody know the stock rear end of an early 1950 F1. I have what looks like a spicer, but the only number on it is "53" and it's in the model number location

 

Would you please phrase your answer in the form of a question?

 

is this the stock rear end? the frame has some mods so I wasn't sure if this was the original. do you know if it's worth keeping, or should i swap it out for something else. i couldn't find any info on a spicer 53

 

I installed a 69 F150 3.23 in my 51F1 good swap I really like the later unit they are much stronger and parts are available. The link below has a lot of information on the swap its a direct bolt in.

To answer the question, it should be a Dana/Spicer 41 as also used in Jeeps. My '49 is same & its a 3.73 ratio behind a H.O. 302 & AOD. Its held up just fine over 7 years . The link shown in the previous post is great & shows a photo of the backing plate for ID.

 

My 48 has the stock dana 41 with a 4.27 ratio. Want it? It needs a good home.
