Smile Replacing power window motor-92 F150

How hard is it to replace a power window motor on a 92 F150? Does it require removing the window glass? I've taken the door panel off the truck, and I can see where the motor is located, but I really don't know how to go about taking the motor out. Anybody have any tips on how to do this?

I've done it 3 times on my 1990 to replace the drive gear. It's doable. You don't have to remove the glass, but you may need to drill holes in the inside of the door to access one or two of the bolts. Be careful not to cut your arms on the sharp door metal---I put an old sock on my forearms. Good luck, Carl

Are there only 3 bolts attached to the power window motor? That's all that I could see, but two of the three looked pretty hard to get at without drilling into the door. Also, will a 87-91 power window motor work on a 92 truck?

You have to drill out 2 holes in the door. If I rember you can see dimples in the inner door where you have to drill. Make the hole1/2 inch so you can get a socket in. Do you hear the motor run? If so it's just the drive gear.

After I drilled the 2 holes, I used a grinding bit to notch out enough room for the 3rd bolt. Yes, there are 3 bolts. Use duct tape over the top of the window to hold the glass in place or it will drop on your arm as you remove the motor. The dowels in the motor gear are usually what go out. If you have access to either 3/8ths or 1/2 inch nylon or teflon rod, that will fix the problem only if it is the dowels that are broke. It will save you $60 to $80.
